Dear host family,

first of all I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to spend a year in the US with you and to be a part of your family. In the following letter I’m trying to give you an impression of my personality and to introduce myself, my family, the things I normally do, the placewhere I live and things lik ethat.

My name is Kevin and I’m a fifteen year old boy from Germany.
The place I live called Staffort and is in the near of Karlsruhe in Southwest Germany, in my village live circa 2000 People. My school is 8 miles from my house away, I drive every day with my friends with the bus too the school. My school have about 750 students. I go to the 10th grade.

My family, that means my parents, my brother and me, lives in a house with a garden. My farder works in the IT industry, my mother works as a clerk. My brother, Timo, is two years younger than me and he still goes to school.
My family is very sportily , my parents goes every weekend with there friends for a walk, my brother plays table-tennis in a club,  and I play since 8 year soccer in a club.
Next to sports I really like meeting my friends, going out, watching movies, spending time on the Internet and things like that.

I also listen to music most of the time when I’m at home, the kind of music I prefer is pop, but I often also like rock and sometimes even classic, my favorated band is Green Day. Photography is something I really like and I always wanted to learn it professionally, but I’ve never had the time and energy for it, but I hope that I will soon do this and that I will make some great pictures during my exchangeyear, so that I can show them to my grandchildren oneday in the future.

I’m really sure that I will have children with my future wife one day and I’m thinking about taking exchange students then to bring my children foreign cultures closer and to give the exchangestudents the possibility to spend a year in another country.
I improve my pocket money with my internet business, I sell there domain names and develop myself since at the beginning of 2007 a valuable domainportfolio.
Sport is a really big part of my life. I love sports and I couldn’t live without it.

In Germany, the US is always present in the news and we watch american movies, listen to american music and on the one hand, I know much about it, but on the other hand, there’s so much that I can still discover and I don’t know, although. I’ve spent much time with reading things about the US, reading reports about exchange students that have been to the US. In Germany many people have prejudices against american people, but I’m not one of them. There are many things you hear about them and I’m glad to have the possibility to find out, if they are close to reality. Maybe this is one of the points, why I want to go to the US, but there are many othe rones. You always hear about the american way of life in Europe and most of the children in Germany also heard about the school spirit there and I want to experience all that and I want to be part of an american family – your family. So I’m really excited about meeting you in summer and I hope that we will have a great and exciting year.I would describe me as a person who’smostlyhappy, confident, funny, open-minded and verysporting, but also as ambitious, untidy and sometimes a littlebittoo emotional, that means that I sometimes react too temparamental, what I regret later. Being untidy doesn’t mean that everything in my room is always untidy, it just means, that I could range everything everyday, what I don’t do. But I don’twant to make you scared, my room usually looks okay and I’m trying to keep  it clean, although it doesn’t look perfect.

live without it. I play in a soccerclub as a striker or a midfielder, I play with people they are two-three year older than me, it would be very great when you’re interested in soccer, too. I hope I can play soccer at my futured high school, this is very important for me.
I also like sports like tennis, I playedit to summers 2007, I like athleticsports and bodybuilding very much, too. I also goes very week as less as one time a weekfor a walk.
In school I really like subjects like sport, history, geographie and sometimes maths.

English is also a subject, that I like. I like this language and I like watching CNN and BBC or other english TV emitters even if I don’t understand everything .So I’m really glad to improve my english, when I live with you in the United States and when I go to a high school. Subjects I don’t really like are biology, chemicals and physicals, because I’m not very good at this subjects.

I also like animals especially birds and dogs and so I’ve got two budgies
there’re called Bobby and Coco. I’ve often dreamt about living in the US one day and may be this will happen soon, first as an exchange student in your family and maybe later with my own family.

I’m not a religious person and I don’t go to church, but I would go to church with you if you went there regularly. I think participating at your activities is one of my tasks as an exchange student and If I want to become a part of our family I have to adjust me to you.
May be it would besome thing, where I can learn much and so I’m open to do it. There is so much I’ve already written and so I’m finishing my letter now. I want to thank you again for giving the chance to spend a year in the US, it’s always been a big dream for me and although I’m going to miss my family and my friends when I’m there I’m really looking forward to it, even if I’m a little bit scared of the farewell from my family.

I can’t wait to meet you and to go to the US!

Many greetings,
Kevin
